How To Make An Immediate Impact In A New Role

Getting off to a good start in your new role is crucial.

First impressions count for a lot with your new colleagues.

But how can you ensure you make an immediate impact in a new business?

Owen Harris offers his insights on how you can make your first impression count:

“One of the things that I think is most important is to ask questions.

Ask as many questions as you can about the business, the industry and your new role to your new colleagues.

This links into ensuring you speak to as many people in the business as possible. Doing this will allow you to get a feel for the culture, what they promote and what kind of business they are.

You also want to make sure you’ve defined success with your new manager. This includes getting information on progression plans, progression pathways and where you want to be in a year, two years, five years time. This also includes questions around how you should structure your days, what you need to do in a day to achieve what you want to in a week, in a month and so on.

Doing these three simple things will give you a better footing in your new business, and allow you to build relationships with your new colleagues much more effectively.”
