Ace your next Cloud & IT Infrastructure contract job video interview

Here in the IT Solutions & Services Provider sector, we’re no stranger to the wonderful world of video job interviews.

Thanks to the work-from-home orders created in reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, candidates have seen a sudden rise in facing video screenings as part of the hiring process.

In order to take advantage of the best Cloud contract job opportunities on the market, you need to be prepared to participate in a video interview.

Our Contract Team Lead Lee Barham talks to us about how contractors can ace their next Cloud & IT Infrastructure job video interview:

“Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown in late March 2020, video interviews have become increasingly popular with many businesses using these platforms as their weapon of choice to engage prospective candidates.

As with any interview, video interviews should be delivered alongside your CV.

Your CV should be the perfect supplement to the interview itself.

It gives hiring managers and HR managers the opportunity not only to see you on screen but to survey your CV as well.

In this sense, video interviews should be thought about in exactly the same was as in-person interviews. By using your CV and other supporting documents to your advantage you will stand yourself in better contention against other candidates in the hiring process.

When preparing for your video interview, make sure you’ve thought about the environment around you.

Ensure your surroundings are as quiet as possible to minimise background noise and possible distractions for yourself and the interviews.

The last thing you need is to be distracted during your interview, or to distract your potential new employers!

On top of this, you should test your technology before taking the interview.

This includes checking audio levels, picture quality and ensuring all of your settings are optimal.

You don’t want to stop and restart the interview due to technical difficulties. Show you are prepared and able to work autonomously by making a good impression through the quality of your voice and image.

It may also show the hiring managers that as a Cloud & IT Infrastructure contractor you’re not taking the interview seriously.

Throughout the interview, it’s important to be yourself.

If you’re not being yourself in the interview and start your new position, the persona you created will be difficult to keep up surrounded by new colleagues.

Of course this doesn’t mean showing your humorous side by doing your best Basil Fawlty impression! But by adding your personality into your answers and showing your individual passions you will stand out against other candidates and find positions which are right for you.

The best thing you can do before a video interview is to practice, practice, practice!

Practising interview questions and doing this on the video software itself will help you to become more comfortable talking to the camera.

If you need any help with video interviews the best people you can talk to are a specialist recruiter in your space. Here at InfraView we work with Cloud & IT Infrastructure contractors every single day, so we understand the market and how best to position your profile with potential employers.

Doing these things will help you to become a more confident interviewee and to help you land your next great Cloud contract job role.”
